When Blackberry Picking Becomes An Extreme Sport…

We live close to many country lanes that are abundant with ripe blackberries at this time of year. Sometimes we’ve picked a few to make a crumble, but this year we decided that we were going to really take advantage of all this free fruit and collect enough to make jam and do some baking too – especially as we’d seen that they were £2 for a 200g punnet in the supermarket!

The thing is…my husband can’t do anything the easy way…that’s just way too boring. For him, even blackberry picking becomes an extreme sport!

And so that’s how we found ourselves in this position:

Him entrusting his life into the hands of three young children, solely to get his hands on the perfect berry that was slightly out of reach. The problem being that the girls were laughing so much that they nearly let go of him! (I’ve blurred out the face of a friend who was with us – it’s not my terrible photography skills).

A lot of hassle to go to for a few berries? Not when you’re a dad trying to show off to your children and their friends!

We had a great time fruit picking, and soon we’ll have some good family fun baking with them too – and so far it hasn’t cost us a penny.

LOL! That’s definitely taking it to the extreme. You might want to quietly mention that any blackberry savings will be negated by a hospital bill!

Beneath the wall the village beck was in full flow after a weekend of rain. He would have had a rocky wet landing. A dad’s got to get his natural adrenaline high’s where he can ;)

Haha! Love it! Nothing like a daddy showing his prowess as hunter-gatherer!!

I think you just hit the nail on the head there Deborah!

Hi there I love your blog and found you via Blow your own blog horn

Thank you, that’s very kind. Don’t you you just love Jax’s linky?

Blackberries… yum! They are not quite ready here yet! That photograph is hilarious, but good for him! It’s going to make that blackberry crumble taste even better after all that effort! Emma :) Ps. found you via blow your own!

Fabulous! I love it. Now that’s some extreme frug foraging.

It is amazing how much berries cost, isn’t it? I’m all for finding your own.

Found your blog through blowing your own bloghorn!

Lol! Looks like they were all having a great time! I was lucky enough to grow up near lots of blackberries too and have fond memories of being little and going blackberry picking!
